The Daughters of Róisín

Directed by Cahal Clarke

Confined to a room for nine months in a house she once called her home.

The Daughters of Róisín is a poignant ode to Ireland’s hidden past that explores the church and state sanctioned abuse against women over the last 100 years. Wee Yarn Productions invite you to witness and journey with this forsaken Daughter of Ireland.

Sole Purpose has been working with Wee Yarn Productions for the past two years (2022-24) to help tour thier show and get thier work seen. They have sold out shows in Derry, Belfast, Dublin and London, and have had rapturous standing ovations!

They are now ready to work independent of Sole Purpose and will be heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for 4 weeks. We wish them all the best and we're sure they will have much great success!

“The Daughters of Roisin is a very poignant play, insightful and emotional, at times haunting, perfectly written and played by Aoibh Johnson. As the Lead Caseworker for Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses at WAVE Trauma Centre, I had the honour to watch the play together with women who years ago were pregnant, forced into Mother and Baby Homes and had to give up their babies for adoption. They found the performance very appropriate and thoughtful, and appreciated that the scandal and the ill treatment they had to endure finally comes more to the forefront.”

Sonja Tammen, Lead Caseworker, WAVE Trauma Centre
