Job Title: Development Officer

Salary: £11700

Hours: Part-time, 15 hours per week

One year contract, with possibility to extend

Reporting to: Artistic Director

Ideal Start Date: September 2023

Location: Derry Londonderry, Northern Ireland. There are options to:

•work from home, travelling to events, activities and meetings as needed

•work from our office in Derry, Northern Ireland

•a combination of these two options

About Sole Purpose Productions

Sole Purpose Productions is a multi-award-winning theatre company based in Derry. We have been making there on social and public issues for over 25 years. We have toured throughout Ireland, the UK and the USA.

 

We produce new work on a range of current issues, including intimate partner violence, youth suicide, sexual consent, migration, and human rights. Working with multiple partners across the North West, we bring professional theatre on contemporary and relevant issues to marginalised and hard to reach communities as well as mainstream theatre audiences.

 

Main Purpose of the Role

The Development Officer will be a key position at the company, working on admin tasks to support Sole Purpose Productions to achieve its fundraising targets. The role will work closely with the Artistic Director to support our key areas of responsibility.

 

The post will focus on (but not be limited to) researching new prospective supporters and partners, fulfilment of benefits for supporters, writing and editing compelling proposals and reports, and taking a role in planning fundraising and cultivation events.

 

This demanding but rewarding role involves a wide range of admin and management skills from managing meetings, social media platforms and emails to working alongside the Artistic Director on the development of strategic plans.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 Operational

Undertake Sole Purpose’s financial management including:

Organisational and project budgeting.
Bookkeeping.
Prompt payment authorisation.
Cashflow forecasting.
Production of monthly management accounts.
PAYE systems.
Fundraising
Administration of grants including submitting of financial claims and reporting progress to funders in line with deadlines.
Procurement of all required supplies and personnel in line with procurement policy / guidelines.
Liaise with company accountant to prepare annual accounts.
Prepare & file Companies House / Charity Commission and any other relevant statutory returns.
Coordinate & produce the company’s annual report.
Ensure all policies up to date and reviewed annually.
Promptly & efficiently deal with administrative tasks.
Support the Artistic Director in the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan.

 

Producing

In partnership with the Artistic Director, produce theatre productions and education / engagement projects.
Fundraising
To develop good relationships with funders, including individual donors and sponsors.
To work with the Artistic Director to research funding opportunities and develop funding applications.

 

Communications and marketing

To work in tandem with the Artistic Director on audience development tasks.
To lead on press & publicity for individual theatre productions and projects.

 

HR

Work to good practice in personnel matters and establish proper procedures and practices.
Assist with the recruitment and retention of Sole Purpose staff, production teams, cast and crew.
Collate time sheets and assess work standards of freelance creative and production staff.

 

Management

To adhere to, and actively implement Sole Purpose’s policies, including equality (diversity, access, and equal opportunities), child / vulnerable adult protection, fundraising compliance, data protection, environmental and health and safety.
To act as Company Secretary, ensuring that the Board is provided with appropriate concise information to enable strategic decisions to be made on policy, financial, management and other matters.

 

Quality Assurance:

To provide feedback and reports on aspects of this job description to the Board at the quarterly meetings.
To monitor and evaluate all projects and productions to ensure the highest standard of work alongside the Artistic Director.
To convene regular feedback sessions with participants, audience, and partner organisations.

 

Other

Skills and competencies required:

Excellent administration and financial book-keeping skills.
Excellent IT skills including social media marketing.
An understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and what it means in practice.
The ability to work to deadlines.
The ability to work on your own initiative.
Strong interpersonal skills.

 

Remuneration and Terms

This is a part time post of 15 hours per week with a salary of £11,700 (£15 per hour). Sole Purpose offers 108 hours holiday and sick pay per year, including Bank Holidays.
This new role can be a combination of home based and office based working. We would expect there to be approximately monthly in person meetings with the Artistic Director, and other meetings to be held online.
