It’s certainly been a difficult time for the Arts Industry over the last 2 years, and here at Sole Purpose Productions, we certainly felt the blow. With theatre doors being shut, large crowds not able to gather for the magic of performance and now the consistent uncertainty of what’s to come, there certainly has been a heightened tension within all of us. For an industry that is always so full of possibility and hope, it has been extremely difficult to weather the storm of strangeness that the global pandemic has thrust upon the theatre world and at times it felt unending.

The last two years have brought everyone at Sole Purpose Productions much more than mere disappointment. The last two years have taught us just how much the theatre means to us. How great writing and captivating performance can move mountains, change perspectives and open minds. The last two years have reminded us of the sheer magic that happens when audiences get together and share in the liveness of the theatre, soaking up every bit of magic energy in the auditorium. The last two years have shown us how important art and performance is for finding joy, expanding our minds and escaping the humdrum of life. And most importantly, the last two years have given us a fire in our bellies for a future filled to the brim with performance, opportunity and artistic expression.

During this difficult time, we have been continuously impressed by our industry’s resilience and we’re extremely proud to call ourselves theatre makers and have such a dedicated and talented cohort of makers by our side. Our colleagues, partnering theatre companies, actors, set designers, lighting designers, costume designers, directors, facilitators, dramaturgs, dancers, production assistants, writers, participants, audience members, supporters and everyone that has engaged with Sole Purpose Productions over the last two years, (and indeed over the last 25!) have been nothing short of magnificent, and we cannot express our gratitude enough.

Next year, Sole Purpose Productions celebrates 25 years, and we look forward to creating more magic with the wonderful people that make our industry something special at our Festival of Theatre for Social Change in February 2022. We can’t wait to see you there.

For now, we wish you all a peaceful, joyful and creativity-filled festive season, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Here’s to a 2022 filled with new ideas, theatrical adventure and space to explore the things that truly matter.
