Riders to the Road by Dave Duggan is a new one-act play for Sole Purpose Productions. It is a modern tragedy of road traffic death, adapted from the Irish classic play Riders to the Sea by JM Synge. Maurya sees the last of her sons, Bartley, take to the road for a car auction on an icy wintry night. She has just buried her son Michael, the latest of her family to die in a road traffic accident. She tries to stop Bartley, but he leaves. Her daughters, Cathleen and Nora, urge her not to part from Bartley on bad terms but what can she do in a society deeply infected by car culture?
