The Shopper and The Boy
a short epic on marching by Dave Duggan

The Shopper and The Boy was first produced and toured Derry Londonderry in June 1996. It is a 40- minute two hander on the theme of Loyalist marching. It tells the stories of two individuals on the day of The Apprentice Boys March on August 12th. An Apprentice Boy gets ready for the march. A shopper searches the city for a school uniform. They live on different sides of the river. The play deals with the complex question of cultural and political conflict. It does not propose a solution but attempts to expose the issues.
Cast: Patricia Byrne & Jonathan Burgess/ Darren Greer

"The performances of The Shopper
and The Boy and the workshops that followed allowed our community of
East Belfast a great insight into the problems that occur during the marching season between both communities"
